FANTASTIC original concept and writing style.
Children are truly inspired by Marta's step by step wonderful journey using her heart as a compass in a hard, prejudiced and cold world.
A wonderful book worth reading and winning.
I read it (I am 40) then my eldest daughter read it all within a day. Next daughter dure to read it once she has finished "Demon Dentist." Marta is pretty good fun, even though she steals when she is upset.
I would recommend this book because it is very enjoyable and i liked it a lot. It was easy to imagine the people and places within the book.
wonderful story our children devoured it in a day-and then we equally enjoyed it
Fantastic book from a wonderful scottish author
Fantastic debut from this wonderful writer
Loved that plucky little Marta
Good luck Maggie Reid
I bought this book for my granddaughter and it was love at 1st.sight! A huge hit!
A fantastic read! Our modern, screwed up world as seen through the eyes of a funny, quirky kid. The author shines a light on the injustice of real life with a funny and often poignant prose. It gripped my somewhat spoiled and cotton wool wrapped offspring with the sheer sweep of the tale, leaving them with a little more compassion and empathy for the real world around them.
This book exemplifies how some children are treated by those who don't quite fit in, physically, who have challenges that are either not understood or out of one's experience. Fear causes a lot of hurt in the world, and this book plainly shows the reader how that fear gets used on those who don't quite fit in.
I'm glad to see a writer tackle this subject. I understand Bobby's problem quite well, but I was lucky. I've known many Martas. They don't have it easy.
Initially bought for my stepdaughter, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it myself!
This is a smile of a book. It is also thought provoking and educational but in a gentle way. The mixture of all sorts of characters will stay in the mind long after the book is put down. Highly recommended for "children of all ages." Both adults and children find themselves in hilarious fixes reminiscent of Crompton and Buckeridge. It explodes pomposity in a way not unlike Dickens. I look forward to sequels!
Very well written and entertaining.
