Gripping and elegant.
Witty and stylish. A murder mystery that is tortuous, surprising and immensely satisfying.
Raichev's detectives Antonia Darcy and Hugh Payne are the reader's guide into scenes of crime rich in complexity, red herrings and unforgettable characters. It is impossible guess who dunnit. While the pacing is as sporting as the centre court at Wimbledon the dialogue is no stranger to wit. As a sufferer from Agatha Christie and Dorthy Sayer Deprivation Syndrome, I can attest that Raichev has just the medicine for those who wish those authors had written more.
Elegant, witty and charming: The Murder of Gonzago is the latest in Raichev's superb series featuring Hugh Payne and Antonia Darcy. A post-modern take on the Golden Age detective story, here the couple investigate the murder of an eccentric (and deeply unpleasant) aristocrat on a Caribbean island. Not to be missed.
