Reviews

Great writing, great characters. No punches pulled in this novel!  Sheila Quigley, Author

A thumping debut from a barnstorming new talent. - Danny King, Author

Great writing, great characters. No punches pulled in this novel! Sheila Quigley, Author A thumping debut from a barnstorming new talent. - Danny King, Author Maxwell’s Silver Hammer is the debut novel by Andy Rivers, a self-professed Geordie-in-exile who, prior to starting his writing career, had worked as everything from mobile sandwich salesman to outdoor traffic cone washer. The story is about two brothers trying to make their way in modern Newcastle, having grown up in a poverty-stricken, dysfunctional environment where keeping your nose clean amid football violence, police corruption and local organized crime is no mean feat. - 'For Books Sake'
I never imagined Newcastle could have such a dark underbelly, but the literary mind of Andy Rivers soon put me straight. Gangsters are running the Toon, with a dodgy cop and a bent judge at the heart of it all. The characters are fantastically written and Andy’s writing style is a new one for me. The novel is split up into multiple narrators. Rivers’ debut novel has a real homely touch, with lots of local charm and wit: it’s gritty - just how I like my fiction - and the ending will knock you straight off your seat. What a belter of a read! HJF 'The Crack' Price

True Northern Grit!
Canny read like. Romps along. Somehow reminds me of Rivelinho in Mexico '70
Great stuff! Loved it!
Top drawer quality!
Fast and furious, read this in two sittings, a real page turner with characters you know.
Was left so bereft after I finished it. I was looking at the pages left, thinking, please, can I have an extension!
An intriguing and fascinating page turner. Compulsive reading from start to finish. Jamie Smith, Freelance journalist.

Great read. Couldn't put the the book down. Put me a day behind with my work
Maxwell's Silver Hammer is gritty urban fiction at its best. Strong believable characters, edgy slick writing and a plot that rattles along like a train. Well worth my vote.
Andy Rivers writes with clenched fists and open eyes. Pick it up if you're hard enough, put it down if you can. Matt Nesbitt, Author.
Best read i've had in a long time.
