An impressionistic memoir about an artist's search for beauty, art and identity. From Felliniesque childhood encounters in 1950s Rome with Humphrey Bogart, Errol Flynn and Laurence Olivier to growing up in 1960s counter-culture LA with Jim Morrison and travels with a mysterious older woman from Europe to Afghanistan.
Artist Michael Lawrence lives on the Greek island of Hydra, an outpost of the art world, painting, sculpting, writing and swimming. His works are in hundreds of private collections internationally. He has had numerous one-person exhibitions in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, New York City, Denver, Madrid, Stockholm and Greece.
"This book is a genuine trip, a joyous, inspiring tour of the '60s." Daniel Klein, author of Travels With Epicurus
Would love to see an exhibition of his work. Anything planned for London?
So much fun. This could be a novel.
It made me nostalgic for those good old days. A great read.
A superbly-written, impressionistic, account of a young artist's life in the 1960s from somebody who truly was right at the heart of it all...
A dizzying ride full of interesting stories. As a child of the 60's, this book brings back many memories of the era.
I read my brothers book and not only learned of stories about his life that I did not know but also got a good idea of what his life was about from his unique perspective. For any young artist who wants to know what it was like in the sixties from an artist point of view, this is a great read!
